Hot Glass Sculpting at the Furnace: Overview

Introduction to library resources on the technique of Hot Glass Sculpting at the Furnace and examples of sculpted work. More information is available through the library catalog or by using the Rakow's Ask a Librarian service.

There are several types of hot sculpting, including:  bit sculpting, massiccio sculpting (sculpting in the mass), working inside the bubble, and "aprima"(completing an entire sculpture without reheating), to name a few.

Pino SignorettoWilliam Morris, Richard Jolley, Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen, and Martin Janecky, are a few artists that work in hot sculpting at the furnace.  Contact the Library at or Ask A Librarian for more information on these and other artists.
