Corning, New York: The Crystal City

Founded in 1923, the Chemung County Historical Society is a non-profit educational institution dedicated to the collection, preservation, and presentation of the history of the Chemung Valley region. First chartered by New York State in 1947, today CCHS operates two cultural repositories, the Chemung Valley History Museum and the Booth Library. We are the largest general history museum in our region.

The Corning Painted Post Historical Society (CPPHS) was founded to collect local historical data, to diffuse the knowledge of local history, and to promote the centenary of the incorporation of Corning as a village. It began immediately collecting information about the community’s past.

The Society's mission is to collect, catalog, and preserve the historical artifacts, archival items, books and other published material relating to the history of Steuben County.
